Middle Dodd and Red Screes

Whenever looking on a map at Middle Dodd and Red Screes, it always felt they were out of the way and not easy to string into a decent sized walk. What makes that harder is when there are viable tracks leading to these peaks that aren't visible on a 1:25 O/S map. Fortunately a bit of internet research showed me that there is sometimes more out there not drawn on a map. This helped me find a way up Middle Dodd and a route directly from my campsite.

 

The next two days we were situated at sykeside campsite at the bottom of kirkstone pass. Shortly after arriving we set off up the road for our first hike. we werent on the road for long before reaching this gate and heading into the fields.

sticking beside the wall we followed a faint track up the mountain. This track is not visible on a 1:25 scale map. I found details of this online.
a steep start to the walk but as we made progress up middle Dodd, it started to rain.
after an often boggy and very slippery ascent we reached the summit of middle dodd
moving forward to red screes which is directly behind middle dodd. oh the false summits. on 2 occasions we thought we were about to top-out only to see the route continue higher. That happens a lot.

the scandale pass
after meeting a couple at this point who had told us to beware of very slippery ground, i fell over twice. little hard crag was our next goal on the route (that rocky crag to the right)
